A BRIEF NOTE ON THE TIWA AUTONOMOUS COUNCIL, ASSAM
The Govt. of Assam constituted the Tiwa Autonomous Council in the year of 1995 under the provision of Lalung (Tiwa) Autonomous Council Act 1995. The council is constituted with total 405 villages comprising the core and satellite area of villages and covering the areas within the Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai and Kamrup (Metro) district of Assam. The Council constituted for social, economic, educational and cultural advancement of the Tiwa and other communities residing there in. As per provision of the Tiwa Autonomous Council Act, 34 (thirty four) nos. of sectors are allotted to the Tiwa Autonomous Council for implementation of various schemes under each sector. The General Council consisting of 40 (forty) members out of which 36 are elected directly and 4 members are nominated by the Govt. with the concurrence of the Tiwa Autonomous Council from among the Groups of community residing in the Council Area and not otherwise represented the General Council.
